United Nation Economic Commission for Africa Established in 1958 by the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations (UN) forming part of the UN’s five regional commissions. The Economic Commission for Africa’s mandate is to promote the economic and social development of its member States, foster intra-regional integration, and promote international cooperation for Africa’s development.

ECA is guided to deliver ideas and actions for an empowered and transformed Africa; informed by the 2030 Agenda and Agenda 2063 As part of its strategy UNECA has entered into a cooperation agreement with AMRS to promote excellence in materials science for Africa’s development. Material Science has ample potential to solve Africa’s crisis in water, health, Food security and energy, this forms part of UNECA mandate to promote efforts in material science.
