Professor Adamah MESSAN is currently the Director of Research at International institute for water and environmental engineering (2iE Institute) in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.
He earned his engineering degree in “Mechanics of materials and complex environments, structures and systems” at Université Montpellier 2 (France) and his PhD degree in “Mechanics of complex materials, structures and systems” Université Montpellier 2 & Ecole des Mines d’Alès (France). After completing his PhD in 2006, he dedicated his work to lecturing and research, as well as other academic-related activities in France and Burkina Faso. He has been at Institute 2iE since 2011.
His lectures include hydraulic binders, concrete technology and special concrete, mechanical and durability behavior of concrete, reinforced concrete and concrete-made hydraulic infrastructures.
His research interests evolved around green construction materials and sustainable constructions systems: from earth‑based materials to the improvement of the thermal-energy and durability performances of buildings; and mechanical and durability performances of road infrastructure; from the value addition of by-products and alternative resources to the elaboration of low carbon cement and concrete for sustainable infrastructures. His research interests aim at improving the resilience of the construction sector to climate change.
Adamah MESSAN has been the head of the Laboratory of eco-materials and sustainable habitats (LEMHaD) since 2014. Since then, he has been fully engaged in collaborative research and academic projects with various national, regional and international partners mainly from France, Switzerland, and Belgium.
