Dr. N’Gom is an associate professor in the department of physics, applied physics, & astronomy at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). He is also affiliated with The Shirley Ann Jackson, Ph.D. Center for Biotechnology and Interdisciplinary Studies (CBIS).
His research interest involves exploring new methods to generate, manipulate, and detect structured light fields using wavefront shaping techniques to control coherent light interaction with material systems. He leads several federally funded research programs that investigates the fundamental properties of light including single photon beams as they propagate through different environments.
He teaches “Quantum Mechanics” to undergraduates and “Classical Electrodynamics” to graduate physics students.
Dr. N’Gom receives his Ph.D. in physics in 2009 from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Following that, he worked as a Research Staff Member in the Science and Technology Division at the Institute for Defense Analyses (IDA); a think-tank for the department of defense.
After that, he worked as a Senior Research Scientist for Corning Incorporated. He was a science lead in the laser processing and measurement innovation group; during which time, he generated several internal publications and inventions, including six granted patents.
Dr. N’Gom is a lifetime of OPTICA formerly the Optical Society of America (OSA) and the National Society of Black Physicists (NSBP).
